1. Topographical Maps-Task 1

1a)  Visit the website http://www.indiana.edu/~libgm/readmap.html and "http://www.ghosttowns.com/topotmaps.html " and read the information on how to read a map.

1b)  Go to the website "Topozone.com."  Using their map search, locate the Grizzly Bear Mine in Alaska.

a)  What is the approximate elevation of the tree line in the area of the mine?

b)  What are the longitude and latitude coordinates of the mine?

c)  Calculate the approximate per cent slope (difference in elevation/distance x 100) of Johnson Creek from its headwaters (just west of the mine) to its intersection with Tibbs Creek (reminder: one mile= 5280'). 

d)  Is there a road within 25 miles of the mine?
