What do you do in a typical day?

I input price changes for our customers along with updates to their individual accounts. I create and maintain exchange comparisons, customer and vendor comparisons and destruction records.

What led you to your present career?

I have a good job because of a joint venture between North Pole High School and my employer, which resulted in a job. The company requested high school applicants through the counselors who referred the best qualified students to interview. There were not many opportunities for this and I was lucky!

What do you think is important for kids to learn in elementary school that will help the with this job?

Children should learn to get along with a variety of personality types and to always treat people with kindness and respect.

What skills are needed on your job?

You need to be able to use a 10-key (calculator) and to type proficiently, plus be able to communicate effectively. Accounting is also very important!

What do you like the best about your job?

The hardest thing about my job is being able to communicate effectively and the work deadlines are always being reevaluated.

What could young people do to prepare themselves for this career?

Students should take keyboarding, be respectful and have a good work ethic. Pay attention and do well in English and math class and do not put off any chores or responsibilities.
