Alaska State Content Standards:

English/Language Arts

.1 A student who meets the content standard should:

1) comprehend meaning from written text and oral and visual information by applying a variety of reading, listening and viewing strategies; these strategies include phonic, context, and vocabulary cues in reading, critical viewing, and active listening;

D.1 A student who meets the content standards should:

1) develop a position by

a) reflecting on personal experiences, prior knowledge, and new information;

b) formulating and refining questions;

c) identifying a variety of pertinent sources of information;

d) analyzing and synthesizing information; and

e) determining an author's purposes;

Mathematics

E.3 A student should be able to apply mathematical concepts and processes to situations within and outside of school.

A student who meets the content standard should:

1) explore problems and describe results using graphical numerical, physical, algebraic, and verbal mathematical models or representations;

Overview: Students will participate in an interactive career fair interest survey.

Objectives: From a student completed interactive career fair interest survey, the teacher will be able to plan a career fair pertinent to the school population.

Resources/Materials: Printed copies of the Career Fair Interest Survey compilation chart from the website. One copy per student.

 

Classroom Setting: individual

 

Activities:

Have the student open up the following interactive career fair interest survey.

Students fill in the form and print out the answers. Use this form to help formulate what type of businesses might be appropriate for your local career fair.

You might have students fill out the form a second time, after the career fair, to see if they changed their mind about any of the career paths.

Community Connections:

Plan a career fair based on the interest of students. Include someone from each of the pathways.

Assessment:

A compilation chart that tallies career interests of students.
