Overview:
Local business representatives visit or communicate with
the classroom to discuss how technology is changing the workplace.
Objectives:
Students will locate, understand and use career
information
Students will understand the relationship between working and
learning/training
Resources/Materials:
Panel of
business representatives as guest speakers and Internet information.
Options: Have the business representatives available to present in person, through an online chat, or teleconference.

Setting:
The students will be gathered as a class to participate in discussion in
person or via a classroom computer with the business representatives
Activities:
1. Brainstorm different jobs in the community that have
changed due to technology.
2.Invite business representatives to speak to the class or conduct an online
chat about the changing workforce. Have each discuss the kinds of jobs and the
requirements for each, how they have changed due to technology, and how the
employees keep up with the changes. Have the representatives share which jobs
that have been replaced by technology. Ex: teller/ATM, operators/automated
telephone systems

Connections:
Local business representatives connect with students and schools to develop partnerships.
Assessment:
Have students demonstrate what they learned about how technology has changed the workforce. The presentation could be a poster, an electronic slide show, or by creating a worksheet with an answer key for classmates to complete. 3-4 jobs illustrated will demonstrate understanding.
For an extension, have them name three jobs that will change and how it may change in the future because of technology.
